Role Overview

The Chief Underwriting Office (CUO) and the Relationship Lending Group (RLG) are teams within TERM.  The ideal candidate will work across both teams, working closely with Investment Banking client coverage, Debt Capital Markets, Operations, Legal, Credit Risk and various internal and external stakeholders.As part of the CUO team in Asia you will assist in all functions of the role with particular focus on transaction memo review, committee administration, and data analysis/reporting.

As part of the RLG team in Asia you will  be responsible for assisting Financing Group bankers with relationship lending memo writing and execution,  along with portfolio risk management of the Firm’s on-balance sheet lending commitments. 

Across both functions there will be significant interaction with Financing Group bankers as well as with Control areas of the firm, particularly Credit Risk and Legal. There will also be periodic projects and presentations.

Job Responsibilities

On the CUO side, he/she will work closely with IBD deal teams through the Capital Committee approval process. Internal stakeholders and IBD deal teams rely on CUO for in-depth review and analysis of all Financing Group transactions, across debt and equity, to ensure there is sufficient diligence conducted and discretion exercised prior to committing the Firm’s capital. Responsibilities include:

  • Review of Capital Committee memos and support senior Chief Underwriting Officers in the underwriting analysis; analyzing the terms, structure and business rationale behind transactions from a holistic standpoint
  • Advising IBD deal teams on the necessary approvals and actions required prior to Committee evaluation to ensure a seamless review and approval flow
  • Preparation of Committee agendas and minutes, documenting and distributing committee decisions and follow ups; tracking Capital Committee follow-up completion
  • Assisting in regulatory requests and prepare relevant reports and presentations for APAC management

On the RLG side, he/she will work closely with APAC deal teams throughout the entire lifecycle of relationship lending execution, as well as working with the global RLG team, IBD Risk, and IBD Strats on ongoing portfolio management and hedging projects.  

  • Work on the execution of relationship loans alongside IBD, preparing detailed committee memorandums, and coordinating with internal stakeholders including Credit Risk, Liquidity Risk, Legal, Conflicts, Operations etc.
  • Assist in the ongoing management of a structured credit hedge; responsibilities include regular portfolio replenishments, trade bookings, interest computations, and detailed monthly/quarterly reports to investors
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for portfolio queries from investors, external trade counterparties, internal stakeholders and senior management
  • Produce regular and ad-hoc portfolio reviews to internal and external stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in finance, accounting or related field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in financial services; preferably in Debt Capital Markets, Credit Risk, Corporate Lending or Debt Underwriting
  • Working knowledge of structured finance products and credit hedging
  • Interest in and knowledge of APAC loan/bond markets 
  • Experience navigating Bloomberg, Reuters Eikon and LoanConnector
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to interact with internal and external parties, articulating complex information in a clear and concise manner
  • Proactive nature with strong analytical and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple tasks and competing work streams in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
  • Accurate and detail-oriented with sound judgment and integrity
