What We Do

Within the Asset & Wealth Management business, strategists (also known as ‘Strats’) play important roles in research, valuation, portfolio design and construction, risk management, and surveillance analytics. A strategist will apply quantitative and analytical methods to come up with solutions that are accurate, robust, and scalable. 

The Alternative Investments & Manager Selection (AIMS) group provides investors with investment and advisory solutions across leading hedge fund, private equity, public equity, fixed income, and real estate funds.  The AIMS group manages globally diversified programs, targeted sector-specific strategies, customized portfolios, and offers a range of advisory services.  Our investors access opportunities through new fund commitments, fund-of-fund investments, strategic partnerships, secondary-market investments, co-investments, and seed-capital investments.  With over 400 professionals across 15 offices around the world, the AIMS group provides manager diligence, portfolio construction, risk management, and liquidity solutions to investors, drawing on Goldman Sachs’ market insights and risk management expertise.  We extend these global capabilities to the world’s leading sovereign wealth funds, pension plans, governments, financial institutions, endowments, foundations, and family offices, for which we invest or advise on over $340bn of alternative and long only investments.

Your impact 

As a strategist, you will build high performance analytical platforms to provide insights on investor/investment returns and to help our business grow. Strat team members develop the analytics and the applications for interacting with those analytics.  Strats are given ample opportunity to collaborate with the business to define creative solutions and develop novel analytical methods. The daily interactions with other team members across geographies demands an ability to communicate clearly about complex financial, business, and computational concepts. You will create advanced computational architectures and applications to meet the challenges of a rapidly growing and evolving business, with a strong focus on long term sustainability and extensibility through continuous deployment, automated testing, and thorough data modeling.

Strat team members will assume responsibility for the developed analytics and are given ample opportunity to provide creative solutions and develop novel analytical methods. A strategist within Asset Management Division will apply quantitative methods and industry knowledge to develop investment strategy and risk management analytics. Strat team members are responsible for developing these analytics and are given ample opportunity to develop creative and novel solutions.

Basic Qualifications

  • Outstanding background in a quantitative discipline
  • Programming expertise in a scripting language (e.g. Python, R, Matlab)
  • Strong general and technical communication skills, with an ability to effectively articulate complex financial and mathematical concepts
  • Creativity and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • 6-8 years of applicable experience
