We are seeking a highly experienced Director of Engineering with a robust background in Risk AI and Machine Learning (ML) engineering to lead our Risk AI & ML engineering team in India. In partnership with other leaders within this org, the successful candidate will be responsible for driving the development and execution of PayPal’s Risk AI and ML engineering strategy, leading the team responsible for building our Risk AI and ML products and promoting innovation and growth in our Risk AI and ML capabilities.

In your day-to-day role you will be responsible for: 

• Hands-on thought leadership for building on-premise and cloud-based ML solution architecture
• Have a solid understanding of Payments or consumer financial products, data systems and data environments, and processes that are necessary for the implementation of Risk and Finance models
• Deep Technical knowledge in architecting, designing, and Integrating new Solutions in a large-scale enterprise of highly distributed applications
• Design Enterprise Machine Learning platforms that are capable of running predictive models.
• Documenting Machine Learning processes and keeping abreast of Developments in Machine Learning. Establish standards, guidance, and best practices for ML Platform operations.
• Establish the appropriate monitoring and alerting of solution events related to performance, scalability, availability, and reliability.
• Provides technical leadership, guidance, and direction to other team members.
• Build prototypes for demonstration and illustration purposes for peer groups, Business partners, or senior leaders. Influence senior business and technology stakeholders across the organization.
• Solving complex problems with datasets and optimizing existing ML libraries and frameworks
• Ability to build global teams to achieve organizational goals and passion for building an innovative culture
• Partner with product owners to define firmwide technology strategies and roadmaps
• Drive innovation and ensure maximizes the business benefits of adoption of market-leading technology capabilities; Ensure new innovations are rapidly evaluated, piloted, and then scaled where appropriate, working closely with product owners

What do you need to bring:  

• Degree in computer science or any equivalent academic qualification with 15+ years of software application development experience
• Passion for leading and developing direct reports; providing guidance, consultation, and opportunities towards improving their professional skill set; ability to lead and influence direct reports remotely
• Experience in building application framework and/or platform development experience
• Deep knowledge in solution design patterns, building resilient solutions across on-premise applications and cloud including associated security considerations
• Background with Machine Learning Frameworks and Big Data technologies such as Hadoop.
• Experience in automating, tuning, and implementing ML Models. Working with Data structures and NLP models
• Experience defining application solution architectures and roadmap
• Strong communication and strategic influencing skills, with an executive presence. Must be able to translate and distill complex data concepts to different audiences concisely.
• Effective people management skills, with the ability to attract, retain and inspire a global high- performance engineering team. 
• Ability to juggle multiple priorities and effectively deliver in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
• Comfortable working in an Agile and collaborative environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
