Purpose of your role
As a member of the UNIX Infrastructure Services team, the candidate will have a broad range of technical knowledge specialising in UNIX Administration. The key focus will be to implement and support new development initiatives for Fidelity International and its subsidiaries, ensuring the most appropriate solutions are chosen and adopted. Key activities for the UNIX team include:
 

  • LINUX, AIX and Solaris systems administration.
  • VERITAS system administration, HACMP.
  • Installation and maintenance of UNIX servers.
  • System performance reporting and enhancement.
  • Shell scripting.
  • Technical awareness of future products, concepts and standards.
  • Evaluation and recommendation of new products and technologies.
  • Disaster Recovery and contingency planning.
  • Develop and enhance standards.
 
Key Accountabilities
Daily Support
 
  • Unix Production Operations support.
  • Provide ad-hoc support to various Infrastructure and Development teams.
  • Perform server patching, data backups and recovery operations.
  • Installation and configuration of RedHat/AIX/Solaris Operating system and hardware to corporate standards
  • Manage Shifts and be the first escalation point for any High Severity incidents/problems.
  • Manage teams.
 
Out-of-Hours Support
 
  • This position requires 24/7 support including working in rotational shifts, Weekend Shifts and On call support.
 
 
Development and Project Support
 
  • Work with Project Managers and Development Groups to provide effective and supportable UNIX environments.
  • Provide UNIX technical advice to Development Groups.
  • Provide development and implementation support for both infrastructure and development projects.
 
Standards/Documentation/Reporting
  • Provide clear technical documentation describing FIL Unix environments and standards.
  • Monitoring and reporting of the server environment and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) 
  • Ensures all changes to the environment are covered by appropriate Change Control process/procedures.
  • Ensuring operational security and standards are strictly maintained at all times.
  • Provide information to management on Unix Server resource usage.
 
Your skills and experience
 
  • Essential skills
  • RedHat 5 and AIX 6.1 system administration in a medium to large enterprise environment. Good understanding Solaris Administration will be an added plus.
  • Clustering technologies – VERITAS/HACMP.
  • Virtualization Technologies – VMWare, IBM VIO and Zones.
  • Backup Technologies – Varitas Netbackup.
  • Good understanding of networking protocols
  • Shell/PERL Scripting and Cron Jobs.
  • VERITAS Volume Manager for Solaris File System.
  • Certification in Red Hat 5 or AIX 6.1l
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Service oriented, ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Strong communication skills and flexible team player
  • Experience in the implementation of Solutions to Operations and Projects 
  • Overall 6-9 years of industry experience in Unix administration along with managing a small team.
  • Experience within Banking or Finance related business and experience working with large distributed systems strongly recommended
  • Candidate must have completed Engineering or PG Diploma or BSc/MSc in IT/Computer Sc/Electronics
 
 
  • Desirable skills
  • Storage Technologies – EMC SAN/NAS.
  • ITIL Foundation Certification in IT Service Management is desirable.
