 Job Description for Linux System Administrator (Senior Associate)

Education Guidelines (Typical):

Bachelor's in Science, Engineering or equivalent

Purpose of the Role:

Provide technical expertise to projects and execute solutions based on the design provided also assisting in building technical competency and capability in the assigned technology domain WITH THE OBJECTIVE OF delivering technically sound projects WITHIN the guidelines of Cognizant standards and norms

Areas of Responsibilities:

Technical Responsibilities

• Minimum 8 years relevant experience in Linux Administration

• Should worked extensively on production systems

• Should have knowledge in Public Cloud (Azure, OCI & GCP)

• Excellent troubleshooting and crash recovery skills.

• Knowledge on OS clustering technologies

• Experience in managing the DR system and familiar with DR process is an added advantage

• Need to Prepare RCA and CAPA for unexpected problems

• Hardware installation, firmware upgrade, RAID configuration and ILOM configuration

• File system corruption issues troubleshooting

• Experience with Installation, Upgrade and Patching

• Storage Management and Logical volume Management Techniques

• Virtualization Technologies such as Xen hypervisor/Oracle Virtual Machine

• OS hardening techniques.

• Knowledge on NIS, NTP and NFS management.

• Knowledge on Exalogic/Exadata will be added advantage.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.





General Responsibilities

• Govern Build activities (hardware & software configuration) with business impact understanding of environment and contribute to improve Build process

• Ensure Adherence to security and compliance requirements

• Implementation of approved change requests in line with change management process 

• Adherence to customer communication etiquettes 

• Timely execution of tasks as per plan Requirements Gathering

• Work with the Application & Business teams on requirement gathering using Industry/Cognizant/Client standard methodologies and tools Design & Solutioning 

• Handle specific technologies within projects

• Understand technical requirement and translate into design Project Governance

• Contribute to project plan creation, product selection, roadmap definition, solution identification and execution

• Perform technical analysis & UAT and ensure quality expectations are met 

• Assist the Senior Consultants/Managers in project planning, status reporting and ensure adherence to Project Milestones. 

• Prepare templates, checklist and guidelines on Due diligence, Transitions and KT

• Understand various technical tools used in the project (third party as well as home-grown) to improve efficiency as well as productivity Stakeholder & Relationship Management

• Interact with the IT-IS team and ensure user / customer / first level management is taken care by them regularly 

• Coordinate, collaborate and negotiate with multiple Cognizant stakeholders for solutions Knowledge Management

• Conduct technical trainings, webinar to fellow peers and other teams across cognizant
Team/People Management

• Participate in new technology trainings and conduct sessions for peers/other associates Participate in recruitment and act as a buddy to new hires

• Work towards team building and collaboration as well as mentor the new on-boarded resources for them to get acquainted with the system

• As part of a team, exhibit leadership in terms of supporting peers and coaching team members wherever possible for them to be able to deliver as per the business requirements and expectations Quality & Process

• Constantly review the process, policies and procedures to identify areas of improvement and share to the customer as well as team

• Ensure changes to the process/policies/procedures are updated because of new technology/project implementation.

• To attend audits and provide evidences

• Contribute to thought leadership and IP through white papers, research and presentations for internal audience, and POC development (proof of concept) along with technical groups as applicable

• Proactively research industry trends to identify and propose appropriate technology transformation solutions
