This role is for the Engineering Manager of the Compliance Investigations India team, which supports critical initiatives across the Investigations domain. You would be responsible for leading a team of engineers in ideating and envisioning, design, development, test and deployment of a range of services on the Compliance Investigations platform. A successful candidate will have an established background in developing Java backend applications, strong technical ability, excellent project management skills, great communication skills and a motivation to achieve results in a fast-paced environment.

The Compliance Investigations team, is part of the global Compliance Platform Technology organization with colleagues in India, US, Ireland, Singapore and Central America. Our team is composed of mid to senior-level engineers, and is focused on challenges like optimizing API performance, delivering architectural improvements for greater scalability and providing our teammates with the tools and platforms they need to excel.

  • Responsible for the over-all systems development life cycle of a key services and applications in Compliance Investigations (CI)
  • Play a key role in the broader architectural and design decision making processes.
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the engineering team within an Agile/Scrum environment.
  • Management of departmental resources, staffing, mentoring, enhancing and maintaining a best-of-class engineering team.
  • Work closely with the engineers to architect and develop the best technical design and approach.
  • Report on status of development, quality, operations and system performance to management.
  • Bring fresh ideas for how to continuously improve our software and the team.
  • Advocate for ways to remediate technical debt on an ongoing basis.
  • Mentor and train engineers to foster a culture of learning and continuous improvement.

Your day to day:

  • Manage and lead a software development team that is part of a larger technology organization spanning multiple locations.
  • Help the team optimize processes, workflows, and developer experiences, so that every day our work can be more streamlined and efficient.
  • Provide mentorship and growth opportunities for developers, partnering with Product managers to create the opportunities and challenges that will help them level up.
  • Contribute to the engineering vision of the org by collaborating with other engineering leaders to define how we can rise to meet the demands of tomorrow.
  • Facilitate and drive key technology decisions with senior technology stakeholders.
  • Recruit, retain and manage highly effective engineering teams, conducting performance reviews and making compensation decisions. 
  • Be a mentor, technical and thought leader for a talented team of back-end engineers, challenging them and helping them grow.
  • Partner with business units, product management, program management and cross-functional teams to deliver business results with agility and high quality balancing aggressive roadmap against engineering principles.
  • Build a culture of learning and sharing technology insights across the technology teams.
  • Drive consistent practices in hiring, training and development across the technology organisation. 
  • Bring innovation to the table that helps in improving the products/services you are responsible for. 
  • Looking for continuous improvement in productivity and quality. 
  • Deep collaboration with cross functional engineering and product teams to evolve the Compliance Technology platform. 

What do you need to bring:

  • BS/MS in Computer Science or related field with 11+ years of software development 
  • 3+ years of experience in managing and growing engineering teams.
  • Experience with data-intensive architectures and an understanding of the best-practices that lead to scalability.
  • Knowledge of RESTful APIs and cloud infrastructure.
  • A self-motivated mindset with a high degree of ownership.
  • The positive attitude and empathy to be a cultural leader and inspire the team to do their best.
  • Knowledge of Java, web services (REST/JSON/GraphQL) and related technologies. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Strong Agile skills and proven track record for product delivery. 
  • Any exposure in Fintech/Compliance/Regulatory Tech is a plus
