Key Responsibilities :
 
This role has five main responsibilities:
  • Position appropriate technical solutions within the enterprise, streamlining our portfolio of modern tools to align with the company's IT strategy, ecosystem and bring in industry standards and methodologies.
  • Become a certified DevOps/Cloud Engineer, with capabilities ranging from Heroku, AWS, Jenkins, Docker and other modern cloud technologies. 
  • Engineer modern IT solutions; ranging from developing API's, automating deployments using CI/CD tools, such as Jenkins/Travis as well as building on top of modern cloud solutions such as AWS & Heroku.
  • Champion the existing tools, platforms, services and processes and constantly work to refresh and refine the Tools and services roadmap(s) and offerings.
  • Own and deliver the development of enhancements and improvements to the user experience for customers that use the enterprise DevOps tools and applications.

Team Background:
The role of the Emerging Technologies group, is to embed and scale identified emerging technologies that will positively disrupt Eli Lilly to "power our business”. This includes growing our cloud, mobile and social capabilities across Lilly, and includes continuous improvement and innovation-driven processes to accelerate delivery across IT, enabling business transformation. The Emerging Technologies group will be inspired by the enterprise business needs, supporting the required people, process and culture transformations.
This group brings not only the technology, but also reimagines how technology should be consumed, and then drives the development of processes, methodologies and services to accelerate time to business value. This role, by focusing on how our employee's, partners and customers consume our services is important to ensuring that the IT strategy can be realized, and that our business is ready for the change
Responsibilities:
  • Be responsible for the delivery of projects from the DevOps roadmap. Everything from idea to implementation
  • Work (with others, including the DevOps Manager) to establish engineering excellence within the Emerging Technologies group and other application areas utilizing DevOps methodologies
  • Provide guidance into the DevOps toolchain, lifecycle, improvement, and standardization strategies
  • Responsible to maturing the Saucelabs/Appium & Selenium services across Lilly; helping build our Selenium & Appium scripts.
  • Drive workable, simple (where possible) solutions with a re-use methodology to promote future reduced "time-to-value”
  • Provide technical expertise to the DevOps team, support the direction, and guidance to platform strategy direction to align with the DevOps Manager's strategy
  • Accept and evangelize the DevOps culture and embed within the day-to-day organization activities.
  • Favor automation over manual processes and work to transform existing processes to adopt automation wherever possible and sensible.
  • Configure build pipelines to support automated testing and deployments.
  • Maintain and improve code quality, development tools, and processes.
  • Work with modern cloud compute platforms such as Heroku, Cloudbees Jenkins, Saucelabs.
  • Deliver end to end projects; from understanding requirements, designing possible architectures to solutions, developing the solution and then handing over to support/operations.
Essential Skills:
  • Prior experience using source code management, such as Git.
  • Software development skills in NodeJS or python.
  • Familiarity with Agile (Scrum/Kanban)
  • Knowledge of microservice architecture.
  • Understanding of basic shell scripting such as bash.
  • Exposure to container-based systems such as Kubernetes or Docker.
  • Understand the different aspects of the DevOps Toolchain.
  • Worked with a continuous integration/delivery tool previously such Jenkins/Travis or CircleCI.
  • Passion for continuous learning and keeping up with the ever-changing technology curve.
  • Be able to work within a global team; collaborating with people from different time zones, specifically Europe/India.
Desired Skills:
  • Certified in AWS/Azure or other cloud compute technologies. 
  • Knowledge of Serverless compute
  • Contributed to open source projects.
  • Scripted Jenkins Pipelines using Groovy previously.
  • Prior experience with EKS/AKS.
