Data Base Management Job Description Manage BJC Database technologies, including SQL, DB2, and Oracle on Windows, UNIX, Linux, and AIX systems. Responsibilities • Configure Databases following an Approved RFC, including: i. Configure Database objects including tables, clusters, indexes, views, sequences, packages and procedures; ii. Work with application developers, system and storage administrators to optimize Database Configurations; iii. As requested by BJC, Configure Database encryption and security parameters; iv. Perform data conversions as required; v. Configure clustered Databases where required using technologies such as SQL Server Clusters, etc.; vi. Work with storage and system administrators to evaluate and implement technologies such as DataGuard; vii. Evaluate Database Configurations and provide recommendations for improvement; and viii. Upon BJC Approval, execute improvement recommendations on an ongoing basis. • Perform all physical Database management and Support activities, including: i. Perform database re-indexing, stored procedure rebuilds, database defragmentation, and purging obsolete database definitions and procedures; ii. Provide level 2 and level 3 activities including index rebuilds or reorgs, verification of integrity, database shrinking, and statistics updating; iii. Perform database shutdown, restarts, and restores as required; iv. Monitor database logging Systems including database lock errors and troubleshoot causes; v. Provide, implement, configure, and maintain the Software, Equipment, and other tooling necessary to perform database management and monitoring; vi. Install, Support, and maintain database management Systems and Upgrades to such Systems; vii. Maintain, operate, and Upgrade, as necessary, automated tools to monitor database performance; viii. Ensuring that adequate tools via specific licenses for implementation on critical databases are available for the environment and are maintained and that the licenses are available for known critical deployment of major projects; ix. Manage database deployment, including installations, Upgrades, and Patch releases; x. Monitor and adjust database memory usage as needed; xi. Monitor and adjust database log space usage as needed; xii. Assist with data normalization and data conversion activities; xiii. Assist with the logical and physical database definitions; xiv. Plan for Changes in the size of databases due to business growth and projected implementation of new applications; xv. Provide database capacity planning and recommendations for correcting Problems caused by lack of capacity (e.g., dataset or table space capacity Events, full log files); xvi. Obtain BJC Approval of modifications to any process in the database schedule prior to implementation; xvii. Monitor and provide utilization capacity to respective business owners thereby assisting with capacity planning on databases; xviii. Monitor regularly the status of the database management Systems and advise BJC in writing of Upgrades and releases thereto and the timing thereof; and xix. Perform database cleanup of security data spills. • Assist BJC application developers in the logical design of BJC Databases, including: i. Evaluate database designs for all databases and provide recommendations for improvement; ii. Participate in new project/application development design sessions and provide database design recommendations; iii. Participate in data warehousing and business intelligence database designs; iv. Performing tools installation and setup as requested; v. Assisting with load testing and test design for development and test environments; vi. Providing direction and expertise to BJC to manage future data management and administration requirements; vii. Identifying product and enhancement opportunities for improved performance and notify BJC of opportunities; viii. Participating in standards development with BJC; ix. Notifying BJC if special requirements will affect the timely
