What you need to know about the role:
• In this role (Senior Data Scientist in Global Merchant Lending Credit Risk) you will be responsible for ongoing innovation related to underwriting, customer campaigns, collections to expand the credit business in a sustainable and profitable way
• Your role will be to monitor and evaluate existing processes and identify potential areas for optimization in the long term
• You will work closely with Credit Risk Strategy, Credit Risk Insight, product and other risk stakeholders to identify, develop and implement specific solutions

• The Global Merchant Lending (GML) team at PayPal is at the heart of managing the risk associated with our merchant lending portfolio. Our primary focus is on the strategic development, continuous monitoring, and enhancement of risk management capabilities to ensure the robustness and growth of our lending products.

Job Description:

  • In this role you will have a direct impact on the future risk capabilities and product features
  • You will work with multiple teams to evolve our product to meet expectations of our customers

Your day to day

  • Collaborate with Credit Risk Strategy, collections, seller risk marketing and product teams to identify and evaluate problems and find potential solutions
  • Identify, evaluate, and integrate new data sources and capabilities to identify emerging credit risk trends and create robust credit risk management strategies.
  • Work with external data providers, in particular Open Banking and credit bureaus
  • Collaborate with internal modelling team to define model needs and support the development and implementation.

What do you need to bring

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in business, finance, economics, or a related field.
  • Prior experience in commercial lending, credit risk management, or a related field.
  • 6+ years post-college working experience within the data-mining, quantitative research or analytics organization. Online Merchant Credit Lending Risk experience is a must.
  • Must be an intuitive, organized analytical thinker, with the ability to perform detailed analysis.
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal skills a must including the ability to explain and/or present analysis.
  • Must have good business judgment with demonstrated ability to think creatively and strategically.
