Business Unit Overview

Loan Management primarily supports the Global Banking and Markets Segment within Goldman Sachs. Loan Management, amongst other things, is responsible for directing and facilitating due diligence (at both, the deal and asset levels) for the acquisitions, asset management and sales/securitizations of various types of loan portfolios in the US, EMEA and APAC. 

The EMEA Mortgage desk makes markets in EMEA loan business (CRE/Resi/consumer) and Asset Backed securities, and increasingly places a large amount of focus on purchasing whole loan pools, originating/ financing new loan assets (CRE/Resi/consumer) or create new securities backed by loan assets which can be distributed to our clients. In this way the desk / structurers/ Loan management, in particular, are very much at the heart of a changing banking / capital-markets landscape, and designing ways in which Goldman can be a long-term participant in these new flows of capital. 

Loan Management is currently seeking an Analyst / Associate to support the EMEA mortgage desk in its asset management activities. The Analyst / Associate will be primarily responsible for data storage and information management solutions that integrates with analytical tools facilitating the acquisition, monitoring, reporting and disposition / securitization of loans purchased, financed and/or originated from different business platforms. 

Responsibilities

  • Management and oversight of mortgage data, including data setup, database management, ETL and data validation. 
  • Ensure the flow of data underneath all of the analytics is accurate and correct. Working with mortgage strategies, technology, and cash operations to that aim 
  • Project management for the initiatives driven by the team
  • Reconcile data discrepancies and perform data reconciliations between external vendors and internal databases through analytics and research 
  • Coordinate with Technology and internal departments to develop new GUI data interfaces, create new vendor data feeds, and add enhancements to internal databases 
  • Facilitate communication between internal departments for shared use of data and definition 
  • Manage and create data related quality control checks for internal databases and provide resolution through analytic research 
  • Fulfill ad hoc data requests 
  • Develop regulatory and business important reporting through automated reporting toolkits 
  • Skills/ Experience

  • 1-3 years of experience in data analysis, data modeling, RDBMS databases and ETL 
  • Strong academic background – in finance, business, math, engineering or accounting degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA equivalent/ candidates pursuing CFA preferred
  • Solid analytical/logical mindset and attention to detail 
  • Experience with SQL and RDBMS required (SQL Server or Sybase IQ preferred) 
  • Experience with dashboarding and reporting tools like Tableau (or similar tools like Power BI, etc)
  • Understanding of databases, data models, and Extraction Transformation Load (ETL) processes.
  • Strong communication skills (clear, concise, and confident) with the ability to manage internal and external relationships
  • Technical skills required include creating/building Reports & Data Visualizations 
  • Must know or be able to learn Excel to an advanced level 
  • Ability to prioritize workload, and work with Technology to help drive data smart solutions 
  • Good to have:

  • Experience in Python programming preferred 
  • Experience in industry standard tools such as Alteryx preferred
  • Mortgage banking/Asset Management/Credit Risk or other financial industry experience preferred
  • Commercial understanding of cash flow modelling and related concepts
