What you need to know about the role:

We are searching for a top-level Data Engineer 3 to join us at PayPal on our Pricing and FX Insights Platforms Team. The Data Engineer 3 will take a development role in designing and developing backend data pipelines using GCP (BigQuery, Bigtable and Dataproc) and Big Data (HDFS, HIVE, HBASE, Kafka), Java Programming, Spark Framework, Shell Scripting and Oracle. You will be collaborating with functional teams, architecture team and product team to deliver high quality product with zero noise in live and zero customer impact.

Your way to impact:

You will contribute to designing, coding, testing, push it to live, own the component and improving the performance of the component in live. 

Your day to day:

  • Building highly scalable backend data pipeline with high thruput in GCP using BigQuery, Bigtable and Dataproc.

  • Writing spark job which will read data from backend payments SOR feed into our data pipeline

  • Building batches using Spring Framework which deals payments data

  • Building REST services using Spring framework which reads the data from SOR, perform business logic, and expose the output data to client in REST API

  • Scheduling jobs using UC4, airflow

What you need to bring:

We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer having 6+ years of experience with the ability to own their code and work on a broad range of different projects in backend that mainly deals with payments data. Building, designing, and developing backend data pipelines in GCP, Spark jobs, Java Spring batches, mid-tier REST services. Creating Hive and HBase tables, build and maintain scalable data pipeline. What we are looking for: 

  • 2 plus years in design and building highly scalable distributed applications capable of handling very high volume of data in GCP using BigQuery, Bigtable and Dataproc

  • 3 plus years in design and building highly scalable distributed applications capable of handling very high volume of data using Hadoop eco system – HDFS, HIVE, HBase, and Spark Streaming

  • Hands-on experience in tuning and writing scalable SQL queries

  • Strong In-depth knowledge of Hadoop technology ecosystem - HDFS, Spark, Hive, Impala, HBase, Kafka, Shell Scripting, Oracle and Data pipeline

  • Strong understanding of real time streaming technologies Spark and Kafka

  • 2 plus years of designing backend and mid-tier services using Spring Boot, REST API, Java technologies
