Job Description Summary:

As a software engineer on the Pricing team at PayPal, you will have the opportunity to work on high throughput, low latency services that power pricing and FX for PayPal's payments processing.

The Pricing team is responsible for the services that support fee and foreign exchange (FX) for PayPal’s payments system. Other systems that are developed and supported by the team provide for the ability to set up experiments in price sensitivity as well as suggest optimal pricing strategies.

  • Develop efficient, elegant, clean, reusable code with no unnecessary complication or abstraction.

  • Mentor other engineers and developers by providing technical and business-related guidance and resources.

  • Deliver quality solutions on schedule.

  • Create / Review well-articulated, detailed design documents.

In your day-to-day role, you will:

  • Design, build and operate scalable solutions at the heart of PayPal.

  • Build and take operational responsibility of real time and near real time services used by millions of users.

  • Be the technical leader of an autonomous, cross-functional agile team, leading design and code reviews.

  • Provide technical and domain thought-leadership and mentoring to other members of the team.

  • Identify areas of technical improvement and make detailed business cases for improvements or new areas of opportunities.

Skills/Experience:

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Information Systems or the equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience, with 10+ years of relevant industry experience

  • Experience building a scalable, production-grade micro-services/API based platforms.

  • Knowledge of Java tech stacks (Spring, Spring Boot, JPA / Hibernate)

  • Experience developing RESTful and GraphQL Web Services

  • Understanding of TDD and unit testing using frame works like Junit / TestNG

Preferred Skills (Nice To Have):

  • Knowledge of J2EE application servers (Tomcat / JBoss) and microservice platforms (Spring Boot)

  • Experience with modern messaging platforms (e.g. ActiveMQ, RabbitMQ, Kafka, SQS / SNS)

  • Experience with modern container platforms (Docker, Kubernetes) 

  • Experience working with relational databases (e.g. MySQL / Oracle)
