What you need to know about the role:

This role is for the Engineering Manager of the Promotions Rewarding India team, which handles critical functions for the processing of a variety of rewards programs for PayPal activity. This high-impact and data-intensive team is responsible for a collection of Java components that include transaction event listening, RESTful APIs, and batch processing.

The Promotions Rewarding India team, is part of a global Promotions platform with colleagues in India, US, Mexico, and Central America. Our team is composed of mid to senior-level engineers, and is focused on challenges like optimizing API performance, delivering architectural improvements for greater scalability, and providing best-in-class rewarding experiences that connect PayPal consumers and merchants.

• In this role, you will be at the center of a rapidly growing rewards platform, handling the systems that decide and act upon users being eligible for rewards.

• As part of PayPal’s mission to be the most rewarding way to shop, your work will have direct impact upon user experiences by enabling new and improved ways to earn rewards, as well as new and improved ways for incentives and earned rewards to be presented to users.

• As the Engineering Manager for Promotions Rewarding India, you will have the opportunity to prepare the platform for an ambitious future by implementing performance and scalability improvements that enable us to delight millions more users.

Your day to day:

• Manage and lead a 5-8 people development team that is part of a larger technology organization spanning multiple locations.

• Help the team optimize processes, workflows, and developer experiences, so that every day our work can be more streamlined and efficient.

• Provide mentorship and growth opportunities for developers, giving them the opportunities and challenges that will help them level up.

• Contribute to the engineering vision of the org by collaborating with other engineering leaders to define how we can rise to meet the demands of tomorrow.

What do you need to bring:

• 11+ years of experience in software development.

• 3+ years of leadership experience as a manager, or dev lead or equivalent.

• Experience with data-intensive architectures and an understanding of the best-practices that lead to scalability.

• Knowledge of RESTful APIs and cloud infrastructure.

• A self-motivated mindset with a high degree of ownership.

• Experience leading teams as a manager or dev lead equivalent.

• The positive attitude and empathy to be a cultural leader and inspire the team to do their best.

• Experience with Java development, RESTful web services, and supporting frameworks.
