Role: Network Engineer – L2 Support

The Network Engineer assists in the implementation of network architectures, including LANs/WANs, LAN
Internet working, and connections with the WAN environment. The incumbent is responsible for identifying hardware and software technical problems and malfunctions related to LANs/WAN s and related networking equipment. The Network Engineer will continuously strive to improve client support, identifying opportunities and recommending solutions for improving service efficiency and effectiveness.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• L2 Support – Work on Tickets escalated by L1 & Higher-level support on fault management
• Monitor and control infrastructure performance in the areas of response, throughput, and availability
• Help configure, install, and maintain necessary LAN/WAN hardware and software to run production applications and to perform development
• Review assigned service requests daily, following up and providing status updates to clients; ensure data pertaining to the status of service requests is entered into help desk problem tracking systems accurately and promptly on a daily basis to provide an up-to-date picture of service delivery status and backlog
• Assist in Change Management and provide required support
• Assist in designing networks; implement identified solutions, make suggestions for ensuring a cost-effective and efficient
• Install, monitor, maintain and upgrade switches, hubs, networks, routers, and systems hardware.
• Should be able to do alert management, troubleshooting, break fixing and coordination with help desk team, and other IT groups when issues or problems arise.
• Engage in performing Root Cause Analysis of incidents.
• Aid in locating the necessary tools and processes to identify troublesome trends; plans to resolve and prevent problems from recurring in the network; maintain high service levels for the user community; have familiarity with the method used to easily compare installation performance against established performance objectives
• Ensure a stable performance environment for enterprise systems and that problems occurring in corporate network are identified and solved as rapidly as possible; provide critical and essential service to places enterprise-wide
• Assist in the implementation of test plans (including functionality, integrity, and stress testing; test matrixes; and definition of test methodologies and strategy); aid in the development of automated test suites for product regression and stress
• Participate in various IT projects intended to continually improve/upgrade the network infrastructure, such as evaluation of new software and hardware required to meet a business need or to make a process more cost effective
• Identify opportunities and recommend solutions for improving service efficiency and effectiveness; participate in IT initiatives to address service issues keeping abreast of technical aspects of the PC-LAN / WAN computing environment
• Implement network architectures, including LAN-to-WAN, LAN-to-LAN, and WAN-to-WAN communications.
• Follow procedures for LAN/WAN administration (e.g., security, reliability)
• Should have experience working in a Network Operation Center
• Coordination with various vendors including but not limited to OEM's and ISP's.

1 Routing protocol experience, including an understanding of OSPF and EIGRP Required
2 Experience with switch operation and configuration, including VLAN creation and administration Required
3 Extensive knowledge of test platforms, including evaluation of test equipment and design test networks Required
4 Understanding of spanning-tree operation Required
5 Experience on MNS tools like WhatsUP gold / Solarwinds. Required
6 Knowledge on Cisco UC Required
